Are you in Grade 6-8? Do you like building things, gaming, coding, or being creative? We are starting a brand-new FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team right here in Bothell—and we need you!
No prior experience is required. We already have a full official FTC robotics kit packed with motors, sensors, and metal parts. We just need a crew to help design, program, and drive it!
🏆 What is FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)?
FTC is an exciting worldwide robotics competition where teams of students design, build, program, and operate robots to play an action-packed floor game.
By joining Bothell-0v3rclock, you aren't just joining a club—you are becoming a founding member of a competitive team. You’ll get to build the robot, write the code, and drive it at local Washington FTC tournaments!
🚀 What You'll Learn & Do
On Bothell-0v3rclock, you don't have to pick just one job. We want everyone to get their hands dirty and try everything! Throughout the season, our team will:
🛠️ Build the Hardware: We will brainstorm robot ideas, use real tools to assemble the metal chassis, mount heavy-duty motors, and wire up the electronics using our official kit.
đź’» Write the Code: We will program the robot to move using remote controls (game controllers!) and write autonomous code so the robot can think and move on its own using sensors and cameras.
🛑 Important Team Guidelines (Please Read!)
This is an Active Team, Not Daycare: We are here to learn engineering, coding, and teamwork. Students are expected to stay focused, respect the equipment, and actively contribute to the robot during meetings.
Student-Led & Student-Driven: This team belongs to the students. While adult mentors are there to guide us and keep us safe, the students do 100% of the actual designing, building, and coding. * Fair Play Across All Grades: Because our team includes grades 6–8, we have strict rules to ensure our younger members get just as much hands-on time with the robot and the code as the older members. No one gets left on the sidelines!
đź’° Cost & Structure
Robotics operates similarly to a competitive team sport.
Shared Expenses: Team costs (such as event registrations and spare parts) are shared across participating families.
Travel: There may be possible travel involved for local tournaments, and we ask parents to please support their student as needed.
Fundraising: We plan to pursue local business sponsorships and fundraising activities to help offset overall team expenses and keep dues as low as possible.
🤝 Adult Mentors Needed! (Parents, We Need You)
An FTC team cannot exist without adult supervision and support! FIRST requires at least two registered adult coaches per team for safety.
We are actively looking for parents or community volunteers to step up as mentors. You do not need to be an engineer! We need help with:
Technical guidance (mechanical, electrical, or software/Java)
Team logistics, scheduling, and fundraising
Supervising build sessions and driving to local tournaments
